What is the working life of SMT resistors?

It is difficult to determine the service life of electronic components, and there is no correct service life. Only by judging the corresponding factors can the working life of SMT resistors be long.

How can we know the service life of electronic components, as they have a long lifespan and inevitably experience malfunctions? Firstly, the chip capacitance blocking, lifespan, and working environment temperature are related. Each specification of capacitor blocking has regulations. If the working temperature of the product exceeds the range, exceeding the range will greatly affect the lifespan. The impact of lifespan is related to continuous working time. For example, the Samsung SMT capacitor 0805 product has an average maximum temperature of 60 ℃ per hour, an average maximum temperature of 40 ℃ per 24 hours, and an annual average maximum temperature of 30 ℃.

This is because at low temperatures, the viscosity of the impregnating agent inside the capacitor increases, the internal voltage decreases, and the electrical resistance of the capacitor decreases. If it is lower than its allowable temperature, it can be put into operation at the lowest temperature, causing partial discharge inside the capacitor and reducing its actual service life.

On the other hand, if the capacitor exceeds its maximum allowable temperature for a long time, it will accelerate the thermal aging of the capacitor. Therefore, on the one hand, temperature, separator, and actual operating environment should be selected. Special attention should be paid to the installation and use of capacitors, as they are actually used. Ventilation, heat dissipation, and radiation issues in working conditions can cause the heat lines generated by capacitors to dissipate in a timely manner during operation, making every effort to withstand high temperatures.

Under normal conditions, the lifespan of SMT resistors is estimated to be around 10 years. However, due to high environmental temperatures or chemical corrosion during use, the lifespan is reduced by 2-3 years, and in severe cases, it may even last for 5-6 years. Note that this is only an estimate. The actual lifespan will be affected by many aspects.
